My true love is still mid-century modern, but lately I have been really into these charming craftsman listings popping up all over. I’m really digging the “nook and cranny” vibe of this one in the Hollywood Hills. This home stands out because it retains all the traditional features of a 1910’s California craftsman, yet has more than enough modern touches (like updated kitchen with stainless steel appliances and Caesar stone countertops) to make it move-in ready.

I’m liking this new mid-century listing in the Hollywood Hills. At nearly 3,000 square feet and 5 bedrooms (plus a maid’s room that can be used as an office) you really get a lot of house for this price which is nice to see. The pool is very clearly the centerpiece as you can see it from almost every photo. The “see forever” views stretch from Downtown to Palos Verdes and you also have a view of the Hollywood Reservoir which is a nice bonus. I really like the sliding glass floor to ceiling doors/windows throughout the house which really show off the views. The kitchen is totally updated and there are walk-in closets and a wet bar. Basically all the trimmings you’d expect at this price point.

3203 Tareco Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90068
4 BR, 3 BA
2,712 square feet
$1,595,000
Situated just west of the Hollywood Reservoir near the Knolls section of the Hollywood Hills, this recently renovated new listing recently caught my eye. I love the dark hardwood floors and post and beam ceilings in the bedroom. At around 3/4 of an acre there is plenty of outdoor space as you can see in the photo above. I love how they arranged the yard into different seating areas and it looks like a number of rooms open right out to the backyard.

The master bedroom has two walk-in closets, a hot tub and steam shower, and a sitting area. There’s a three-car garage and room for up to eight cars in the driveway. The drive up to the property is gated and tree-lined for maximum privacy.

This house pretty much everything someone would be looking for in this price range except maybe a pool. Would this house be on your list of homes to see if you were looking for a million dollar home in the Hills?

Built in 1960 and designed by architect Robert B. Marks, The Backer/DeCarolis House has just hit the market. This mid-century modern home has multiple levels in the hillside and has a hexagonal form that really becomes apparent on the inside.

Dig that sunken living room! There’s also a wet bar, outdoor studio/guest house, pool with a spa and canyon views. Marks was a student of Frank Lloyd Wright and his “organic architecture” influence can be seen throughout the house.

This home just hit the market and is ripe for the taking! I can’t wait to see it in person. What do you think: priced to sell or overpriced?

2501 Outpost Dr
Los Angeles, CA 90068
3BR, 3BA
$1,295,000
This secluded gated compound in Outpost Estates has come back on the market. It’s single story ranch style with an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings and French doors opening up to garden terraces. I’ve had these kinds of ceilings on my mind a lot lately and I may be moving into my own post and beam ceiling apartment soon (fingers crossed!).

There’s a gourmet kitchen with professional appliances, a master bedroom with a slate bath and an artist studio/guest accommodation above the two-car garage. Seriously, what doesn’t this house have? Oh yeah, a pool. Is that a deal-breaker for you at this price?

I brought our pup Ebbie to Tailwaggers & Tailwashers in Franklin Village to be groomed today, and it was a great success!
Ebbie’s haircut looks amazing. It seriously took years off the little guy… The groomer even said, “He came in here looking like a old man and is walking out looking like a puppy!”
What more could a dog ask for?
If you’re in L.A., I really recommend them. The staff was super sweet and very good with Ebbie. When I picked him up, he was very happy and relaxed, and looked super cute! Check him out:

Christina Ricci recently listed her Hollywood Hills home. Taking a peek inside (in the slideshow below) you can see the stylish star has quite the impressive eye for interior design – the house is incredibly classy throughout. It’s tucked away on one of the most desired streets in The Oaks neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills. The 2400 square foot house has a mosaic tiled pool and a lush backyard. Ricci always seemed like someone who would keep a great looking home, and she certainly does not disappoint. I wonder where she’s moving next?

Want a private and modern two bedroom in the Hollywood Hills? Get ready to shill out a million bucks. Here we have a great example of a house that looks great from the outside, is in a great location and has amazing views, but who is it really for? The “party shower” that leads out onto the back deck gives us a clue that it’s not designed with a husband, wife and two kids in mind.
With that said, is this pad up to par? Sleek and modern, sure, but after looking at the pics this house just feels a little stale to me.

The deck even looks a little small, but it may be bigger in person:

Here’s a house that does a nice job of reinterpreting 1960s modern. Anyone who loves exposed wood beams will love this house. Located up in the Los Feliz hills, you can watch the sun set from the beautiful backyard pool and fire pit. I love the little waterfall they added to the side of the pool. The whole house a “zen” vibe – there’s even a meditation garden with a Buddha fountain.
Inside is a gorgeous two-story living room with the exposed wood beams and a beautiful set of wooden stairs:

The kitchen and living room also contains high ceilings and has a great open feel:

There are a lot of houses like this one up in the Hollywood Hills: sleek and modern with amazing views and a nice pool. The photos like the one above make it seem like the perfect place to live out your Hollywood fantasy. But the question I often ask myself when looking at these houses is: “is it really livable?”
Take the living room, for example (and do your best to ignore the hideous art work on the walls):
