SOLD – $565,000
I’m pleased to present my newest listing in Silver Lake! This great Spanish bungalow is an exciting and rare opportunity to live in one of Silver Lake’s best pockets, just steps from Sunset Junction. Venango Avenue is a tiny, quiet street within walking distance to Intelligentsia Coffee, Cafe Stella, and many more fantastic Silver Lake shops, bars and restaurants.
The home is full of authentic charm with original hardwood flooring throughout, a period bath featuring a clawfoot tub, original built-ins and large windows.
Check out more photos after the break, and see this home in person at the Open House this Sunday from 2pm – 5pm!
Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday… They all came and went. Holiday shopping accomplished? Zero. Yes, I admit it. I’m a procrastinator. And if you’re like me, you know how brutal holiday slacker-shopping can be. As December chugs to it’s wrapping paper covered conclusion, frenzied shoppers hit the mall in a panicked wave, grabbing whatever is left, not pausing to contemplate: Will my dad appreciate this Old Navy Trapper Hat? … Whatever! Put it in the cart! Mark it off the list!
This year, make life easier and shop your neighborhood instead. And (note to self) maybe try to do it before the bitter end. Check out some of Take Sunset’s favorite spots in Silver Lake for gift giving…
Lawson Fenning – There are tons of great gifts at my all-time favorite Silver Lake furniture store, from glassware to hanging terrariums, slate cheese boards, rugs, books and a tons of other tasteful and stylish gifts. 1618 Silver Lake Blvd.
Hemingway And Pickett – This shop offers off-beat housewares like Realax Stools by Cloud that have axe handle legs (perfect for subtly passive aggressive gift giving!) and Rorschach inkblot pillows and tea towels. They also carry art, accessories ornaments and cards. 3208 W Sunset Blvd.
Mohawk General Store – They have scarves and (swoon) shoes from Rachel Comey, A.P.C. and Comme Des Garcons leather bags, jewelry by Samma and so much other brilliant stuff you’ll have a hard time not shopping for yourself. 4011 W Sunset Blvd.
Vivier and Bentley – If you’re shopping for a stylish woman, all you have to do is walk in this handbag and jewelry shop and grab the first thing that catches your eye. Trust me, she’ll love it. 1404 Micheltorena St.

I love it when new stores open in the neighborhood, especially places where I can shop without maxing out my credit card! Back in April, Husband and wife team Nate Archer and Sunny Walker open Painted Bird in Silver Lake, just a few blocks from Sunset Junction. This is the shop’s second location. The original Painted Bird in San Francisco has been around since 2005.
Painted Bird carries a mix of vintage fashions for men and women, including layering basics, printed sundresses, denim, knits, silk pieces, handbags and jewelry. There are also new pieces from brands like Them Jeans and Alternative Apparel. Everything in the shop is marked at an affordable level, with most price tags under $80.
You can also find Painted Bird’s own line of handmade shoes, including oxfords, lace ups, buckle boots and sandals, all priced under $90! They sell out quickly when in stock, but they’re definitely worth checking out. Plus, you can buy, sell or trade your unwanted clothes for 35% in cash or 55% in trade for new (to you) merchandise. With all the affordability, Painted Bird doesn’t have that disorganized everything must go! Urban Outfitters sale section vibe. Rather, it feels like the ultra-cool closet of a vintage shopping pro. And lucky us–we get to raid it.

I’m very excited to announce my newest listing! This modern architectural townhome is located in the award-winning Monroe Heights building designed by Chu + Gooding Architects. Featuring 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, this unit has a comfortable floor plan, plenty of space, and is in a great Silver Lake location.
The unit is 3 levels with both bedrooms on the first floor. The stairs to the second floor open to the living room, kitchen, and dining room.
Double-high ceilings provide a great sense of space and light. The current owners added the custom built-ins seen above, as well as Italian backsplash tiles in the kitchen.
In the past few weeks a handful of new income properties have hit the market in Silver Lake and Los Feliz. Below are three properties, all priced under $600k. Each one represents an opportunity to live in a great neighborhood and collect rental income at the same time. Which one would you buy?
For more information or to see any of these properties in person, email me or call me at 323-775-6305!

Mohawk General Store just re-launch their online shop. It features an expanding selection of designers, and brand-new picks for spring are being added daily. It’s always worth stopping by Mohawk General’s brick and mortar store–I usually want to transport the entire shop back to my living room–but browsing their online selection is great too. Here are some of my current favorites…
1.) FLUO Leather Colors from Comme Des Garcons – Pulling out this ultra-bright leather wallet would make paying bleak things, like your taxes, seem more cheerful.
2.) Wood Wood Adelaide Dress – The rest of the country is optimistically saying, “spring is right around the corner!” while mentally preparing for the possibility of another full month of bad weather. Here in LA, it’s sunny & 70 degrees. Celebrate your choice of location! Buy a dress.
3.) Costalots 83’s in Rose – Or shades! These Costalots 83’s have a classic shape, a double bridge, a logo engraved Carl Zeiss lens, and a warm rose shade.
4.) Serge Gainsbourg Aux Armes Et Caetera – Relax and be cool while listening to Serge…
I’ve been eyeing Mohawk General Store since it recently moved to Sunset Junction. Mohawk, the clothing and accessories store, joined forces with Amsterdam Modern, the by-appointment-only Van Nuys warehouse filled with mid-century furniture and 20th-century Dutch designs. And now they’re in one convenient location where you can get everything from cute new shoes, like these Rachel Comey booties in black leather that I am drooling over. (Hurry up and re-stock, MGS!)
You can also pick up contemporary housewares, as well as American, Dutch, and Danish vintage furniture.

The newest addition to the local pet store scene is Urban Pet. Located in the quiet (and somewhat empty) stretch to Santa Monica between Virgil and Hoover, Urban Pet is looking to appeal to local Silver Lake and Los Feliz residents with its healthy and green pet supplies.
Now the largest pet store in the neighborhood, the 4,000 square foot store is home to over 5,000 innovative pet supplies for dogs, cats, fish and reptiles. Aside from a broad selection of premium foods including brands like Evo, California Natural, Karma, Halo, and Wellness, the store stocks organic and environmentally-friendly products including popular items like eco naps made from soda pop bottles, hemp leashes and bio-degradable waste bags.
There will be a launch party this Saturday, March 6th from 6 – 9PM. Food, wine and free valet!
Urban Pet is located at 4475 Santa Monica Boulevard at Virgil. Parking and entrance is behind the store. Open M-F, 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday, 9am to 6pm. Learn more at www.theurbanpet.net.
