Tam O’Shanter

Los Angeles, CA 90039
(323) 664-0228

Tam O’Shanter was established in 1922, and is one of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles County. Walt Disney was a frequent patron at this spot. Tom Mix, Fatty Arbuckle, John Wayne and Walt Disney and members of the Disney studio were all regulars in the early days of the “Tam.” Tam O’Shanter is the oldest restaurant in Los Angeles in its original location and still under the original ownership by the Lawry’s family. The restaurant still maintains its original Scottish ambience with plenty of dark wood, fireplaces and comfortable leather chairs. Go to Tam O’Shanter if you’re in the mood for some Los Angeles history, along with your order of prime rib.

The Village Bakery & Cafe

3119 Los Feliz Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039
(323) 662-8600

The Village Bakery & Café  recently took over the space owner by LA Bread, and the transition is going quite well–just ask the Atwater Village residents who line up daily to grab their organic coffee, freshly baked cinnamon rolls, artisanal breads with raspberry butter and pastries. They also serve breakfast in the afternoon or lunch in the morning–whatever your heart (and stomach) desires.

Atwater Village Farmers Market

The Atwater Village Farmers Market might not be as big and flashy as the one in Hollywood, but that’s not a bad thing. You can take your time here; check out the produce, flowers and homemade baked goods without being elbowed in the ribs countless times. Plus, you might actually find a parking spot! The Atwater Village Farmers Market has a great variety of produce, fresh baked breads and incredible hummus, coffee and gourmet food items. Sampling is encouraged, so come hungry. It’s also a good idea to head to the Market early in the day to grab the best produce.

Pot-ted

3158 Los Feliz Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90039
(323) 665-3801

People in L.A. love their plants, probably because things grow like crazy here. And while you might find gardening and house wear items cheaper at mass-market stores, you’d miss out on the true gems that local stores like Pot-ted offer. They stock gorgeous pots, cacti, succulents, unique gifts items, wind chimes, fountains, paving stones and even outdoor furniture. And Pot-ted’s owners and employees are sweet and helpful, as well.

Viet Noodle Bar

3133 Glendale Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90036
(323) 906-1575

Just named one of the Top Ten New Asian Noodle Bars by Bon Appetit magazine, Viet Noodle Bar has been a favorite of Atwater Village residents since it opened. A major draw is its crave-inducing pho, a soup made with various meats, seafood or vegetarian-style and topped with cilantro and hand-pulled noodles. Viet Noodle Bar is open daily from 11am to 10pm.

Atwater Playhouse

The space itself is a 45-seat, intimate but spacious brand-new theatre. This theatre and school were opened with the intention of presenting drama in the most honest, organic way possible. The Atwater Playhouse is a Method acting theatre. All work and performance done in the space is treated with the same amount of respect for the acting craft that Constantin Stanislavski preached in his writings and teachings. The theatre is also available for private rentals.
