2012 Home Of The Year
Update: The votes are in! John Lautner’s Foster Carling house in the Hollywood Hills was crowned Best Home Of 2012. It received 19% of the votes (followed by The Skinner House, 920 N Foothill and the Hailey Residence all tied for second).
My vote was for The Skinner House, but the Foster Carling House was a close second. It’s a beautiful house and everyone seems to love all things Lautner. Thanks for voting and happy new year!

Today I checked out the newly listed Waxman House, designed by Barry Moffitt in 1964. Moffitt, who studied with John Lautner, built the 1,972 square foot home for artist Arlene Waxman. It was photographed by Julius Shulman in 1965.
The residence is located in one of my favorite parts of Studio City, set up in the hills, among many other beautiful homes and architectural standouts. It maintains many original details, including a wood burning brick fireplace and features clear heart redwood paneling throughout.

Mid-Century Dream Home In Studio City
Lynn Harris, an executive vice president of production at Warner Bros., and her husband, Matti Leshem, founder and CEO of the branding company Protagonist, remodeled this classic mid-century post-and-beam house in Studio City. It was built in 1951, by architect Maynard Woodard, a former studio set designer for his personal residence while working at Welton Becket & Assoc., the architecture firm that designed Los Angeles landmarks like the Capitol Records Building and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Harris and Leshem took the home through a yearlong renovation process, stripping, repairing and replacing everything in sight with the help of friend and LA-based designer Sarah Walker. The result is an absolutely pristine example of an updated mid-century modern, and pretty much my ultimate dream home!
