Pierre Koenig’s LaFetra Beach House

Mid-century modern architecture collector and preservationist Michael LaFetra bought this Malibu beachfront property back in 1999–it was originally a spec-house owned by Pia Zadora. In 2000, LaFetra began working with Pierre Koenig on designs for the beach house.
According to a 2005 LA Times article, the two became friends after LaFetra bought Case Study House #No.21, also designed by Koenig. Unfortunately, while working on the beach house design Koenig died in 2004. According to Curbed, Koenig’s wife Gloria told LaFetra that he’d wanted architect James Tyler, known for his work with architect Craig Ellwood, to take over the project.
Recently completed, the 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath residence is sited on a breath-taking site. It was described by Koenig as being “a perfect jewel” and “with a view that rivals CSH #22″.

I was looking through listings last night with Rob, and I was drooling over this mid-century post and beam house in Malibu that is back on the market. Check out that view of the Pacific Ocean! Don’t get me wrong, I love Silver Lake, but it’d be quite nice to have views of the ocean from almost every room in the house. This home is located on a tranquil cul-de-sac and features hardwood floors, a modern kitchen, stainless steel appliances, and beautifully landscaped grounds.
Segel House By John Lautner

John Lautner has contributed some of the most unusual and interesting houses to L.A.’s rich architectural history, like The Chemosphere, for example! The Segel House on Carbon beach in Malibu is certainly among his finest creations.
Built in 1979, the house has had a number of famous owners such as Courtney Cox and David Arquette, who sold the house for over $33 million to Dodgers owner Frank McCourt. The above photo shows (shot by Julius Shulman) shows how well the house fits into the mountain landscape. Imagine what the views are like from those huge windows looking out to the Pacific Ocean! To say this is a dream beach house is an understatement.
