I went through a phase where my dream was to own an important mid-century modern home, but my most recent daydream is to collaborating with an architect to design an original home, built to my exact specifications. My daydreams are not limited, however, and in mine I own a mid-century home too. And both have pools, of course!

Jones-residence-silver-lake

It goes without saying that our neighborhood of Silver Lake has many spectacular examples of mid-century homes, but there are also stunning examples of modern residences too, like the Jones Residence designed in 2008 by LA-based Escher GuneWardena Architecture. This intense 2,500 square foot house is visible from our back deck. It sits on a slopping hill site, suspended by five piers.

The interior is divided lengthwise into two zones, with an open living-dining-kitchen space on one half, and four bedrooms on the other. It is very clean, white, modern, which can either feel sterile or calming, depending on your point of view.
