Joseph Eichler (1900–1974) was a post-war real estate developer and influential advocate of bringing modern architecture from custom residences and large corporate buildings to the general public. Eichler is best known for his distinctive residential tract subdivisions in California. Between 1950 and 1974, Joseph Eichler’s company, Eichler Homes, built over 11,000 homes in nine communities in Northern California and three communities in Southern California.
This Saturday, May 14th from 10am – 4pm there is a rare tour of 6 private Eichler Homes in Balboa Highlands. This unique neighborhood in the North San Fernando Valley includes roughly 100 homes built by Eichler between 1963 and 1964. It is the only Eichler tract in Los Angeles County. Specific tour location and direction information will be provided to ticket holders only. Tickets are available for advance purchase only and are $35 for Friends of The Gamble House (FoGH) members and $45 for general admission.

There will also be a Eichler lecture on Friday, May 13th at 7pm. Joseph Eichler and His Architects: The Men Behind Eichler Homes will give an overview on Eichler’s work. This is the last series lecture featuring journalist and author David Weinstein. It will be held at the Art Center College of Design, Ahmanson Auditorium, 1700 Lida St., Pasadena. Tickets are free for FoGH members and $12 for general admission.
