My friend took me to this open house today with very little preface as to what we were going to see. When he had trouble finding parking and as I saw herds of people heading in one direction I started wondering what was up.

“Uh, I guess this is going to be a crowded one,” he said.

As we approached the house I started to see why – this is no ordinary income property, flip, rehab, whatever you want to call it. Every contractor, flipper and investor was here to see what could potentially be the deal of the year: an architecturally significant mid-century that has been abandoned for over 15 years.

Those years of neglect have left the house in a condition that I overheard one person describe as “as if beautiful vintage car had been in a terrible accident and left in a junkyard.”

The photos below don’t do this house justice – it’s in much worse shape thank it looks – but take a look anyway. And then head over tomorrow (12/6) for the second and last open house. Because in a year it will either be replaced by something new or it will (hopefully) be restored to its original glory and you’ll wish you had seen the before and not just the after.
